Today I'm showing you a special cot quilt, that a friend of mine ordered to use for her grand kids when they come over. She needed it to coordinate with the existing neutral decor that was in the room and be suitable for both girls and boys, not just as babies, but as they grew as well. Whew! That's quite a few boxes to tick...

My friend chose a 'Stella' charm pack, by Lotta Jansdotter for Windham Fabrics. It has the perfect understated colour pallet, with cute elephants and leaf patterns, and I paired that with some coordinates from Spotlight. I also left out the mustard colour from this collection, as it felt a bit out of place. I used the coordinates to make a scrappy binding as well, and I love the effect of the colour change as you go around. I backed the cot quilt with a grey zebra print also from Spotlight, which is such a fun element for kids learning about animals.

Here's the little pillow that I made to coordinate, just the right size to snuggle.

But my favourite part of the whole thing was designing a surprise softie for her, based on the elephant design in the collection.

I just sketched him out until I was happy with the size and shape, and made some of my favourite candy cane piping. It's so exciting when my vision turns out the way I planned...and just look at his little fluffy tail!

This cot quilt finished at 110cm x 150 cm, which is a nice roomy size to be tucked in for different size little bodies, and also be snuggled in watching Peppa Pig.I've affectionately called this quilt 'The Egglipot Cot Quilt', based on my husband's name for this family who have been our friends for years. We know all the grandkids too, and it's been so wonderful to watch this lovely family grow up and expand. I had a lot of fun designing this with the squares on point, and learned a lot about how to calculate the size of the side setting triangles. It was such fun to present the finished product, and see how happy she was with it all! There are some big things happening in my studio this year...stay tuned for a major makeover I will be sharing in my sewing space, and lots of exciting projects in the works...
