Thoughts from Ali
As a curator of an extensive fabric collection that I fully intend to use effectively, I needed an efficient way to catalogue, store and find my stash.
I looked at many different storage methods, and finally settled on using the Ikea Billy bookcase system with custom designed boxes that hold a LOT of fabric.
The Modular Fabric Box is a quick and sturdy storage solution for busy sewists and quilters like me and you.
Each size is made from two fat quarters, and reinforced with stiff interfacing, so they hold their shape well.
The pattern comes with printable stash labels that fit inside the clear vinyl pocket on the front, meaning you can catalogue and store your stash your own way.
Whether you like to store by designer, fabric house, collection, or scrappy, there is a label for your needs.
Available currently in two sizes, 5" x 5" x 10" (12.5cm x 12.5cm x 25cm) and 5" x 5" x 5" (12.5cm x 12.5cm x 12.5cm) these boxes perfectly fit the Ikea Billy bookcases and effectively turn your shelves into removable drawers that store way more fabric.
Each of the large rectangular boxes holds up to 42 fat quarters, and the square box holds up to 21 fat quarters. They also easily accommodate larger pieces too.
Two of the square baskets fit together to the depth of the rectangular box, making for effective storage of smaller collections and scrap pieces.
These are also perfect for gifting...I've also designed four labels for giving as birthday gifts, baby gifts, or Mother's day.
Fill with fabric, yarn, or specially tailored gifts that your recipient will adore!
I know you'll love the feeling of sewing yourself organised along with me...
