piecing using a foundation (in this case, paper) for stabilization and accuracy. Foundation piecing is also done with muslin or stabilizer foundation. http://www.wasiq.org/wasiqterms.html[/box]I have done english paper piecing, done with hexagons, and you can see an example of that in my blog header. Usually done by hand, it's a slow process, but one I love, as I love hand sewing. This is an entirely different process, done on the sewing machine, and the effect is that you can piece tiny little pieces extremely accurately.

This might drive some people mad, but I love a challenge like that! As usual, I looked up youtube videos on the subject...and this solved two problems for me, for my browsing led me over to Kristy who has been doing some amazing stuff for BOYS. And if you know anything about boys, you'll know that once they pass that cute toddler phase, sewing things for them is just plain hard. But what boy can resist Lego, or Star Wars, or even a combination of the two??So I've been wanting to make a quilt for my 10 and 7 year olds, and have been baffled at how and where to start something that will grow easily with them. So imagine my delight when a whole new world opened up here...I mean a WHOLE quilt devoted to Starwars blocks and characters?? What boy could say no to that? Totally cool!!Kristy is even sharing these patterns for free, something we all love.

Check out her shop here...she has heaps of free stuff, and that's where this little guy came from...

This has been the perfect project to begin with, and the perfect present for one of my nephews, who just turned 7 as well. Kristy has clear instructions for a beginner paper piecer like me, and I was pretty pleased with my first attempt.

He's lego and cheeky all in the one cushion, suiting our Tim down to the ground!
