A sorted work area is the best feeling - let's tackle it bit by bit & get it done together!

Sew Great to Be Organised is a fun series that Molly and Mama and I decided to run together, to help get our sewing spaces in great sewing shape for the future.

We thought it might be fun to challenge each other to improve some habits so we can get more sewing down and have a stitch filled year ahead.

So why don't you come along with us so we can help each other lose that extra weight of clutter and mess and start some healthy habits!

Rather than a flash in the pan tidy up that only lasts a short time, this is about achieving some improvement no matter how small in something that has been really bugging you.

Why is this so important to me?

Because I need my sewing space to be one of comfort, belonging and relaxation. A happy place I can come to and feel happy in!

How I feel in this room is crucial to how productive I am when I'm in here. If I’m surrounded by clutter and unused objects, this definitely impacts my mental state. It’s overwhelming, energy sapping and stressful.

I need to feel in control of your space, mentally and physically and not feel like the space is controlling me.

It takes some honest contemplating to think this through. When you understand the power that your stuff is having on your mind, it’s a huge revelation.

And when you discover that you have permission to be in charge, that freedom is so inspiring. You have the power to say ‘yay or nay’ to what you own.

It’s a giddy feeling!

It’s like finally getting the keys to the car for the first time.

And if you’re with me on feeling that burden of too much stuff, and too much unsorted stuff, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

So once you reach this point, how do you start getting organised when your space feels overwhelming?

You tackle it a little piece at a time. With one foot in front of the other, one step at a time.

In this series we’re setting goals, making a plan, and checking off the list. This makes everything so much more achievable.

Which part of your space is really bugging you?

Maybe your fabric stash is out of control.

Maybe your threads are so tangled you can’t pull out the one you need.

Maybe your UFOs are piling up and you’re not making a dent in finishing anything.

And maybe you’re just feeling like everything has snowballed and you don’t know where to start.

I’ve broken this challenge down into four main areas. We’ll tackle notion storage, fabric storage, WIPs (works in progress) and finally tips to travel with your projects efficiently.

I’ll be talking about each of these in depth, and sharing my progress, my best tips, and lots of links to other people’s great ideas.

I've posted a before tour of my #honestcraftroom on on Instagram, and it's not pretty.

But little by little I’m tackling my mess and my clutter and starting to enjoy my space and getting a lot more sewing done.

I hope you’ll come along with us through this series and chip away at the roadblocks holding you back from sewing more and stressing less.

Let’s challenge each other to work in a consistent way that will benefit all of us in being able to do more of what we love…sewing!
