Pretty Handmades Blog Tour - Flower Friends Quilt blog schedule
Pretty Handmades Blog Tour - Flower Friends Quilt book

Welcome to my stop on the Pretty Handmades Blog Tour!Today we are all about this beautiful new book, Pretty Handmades, written and beautifully presented by Lauren Wright, of Molly and Mama, and I am absolutely thrilled to be celebrating her amazing achievement with her!Published by Tuva Publishing who have a delightful range of craft books, it will be released on 1 Oct. It's just brimming with the prettiest gift and decorating ideas. Small projects that are fast to complete, and longer ones to take your time over.Lauren and I have been Instagram buddies for quite a while now. We naturally bonded over all the important things, like our love of wool felt, making tiny things, and Liberty fabric of course! I even got to test a few of Lauren's patterns for the book, and had great fun. Her patterns are super clear and easy to follow for even a beginner sewer.I was very kindly offered the brand new Tilda Cottage range to use for my blog project, and I knew straight away what I'd make with it...a quilt of course!

The prints have a definite vintage feel, with some large florals, sweet toiles, and vibrant colours...and how cute is that roll of binding of tiny floral binding??

This my version of the Flower Friends Quilt from page 46 of the book. It's the perfect beginner project for practicing your piecing skills, applique skills, and your quilting skills, going as simple or busy as you want.

I used Essex linen in cream as my background fabric, and as many of the Tilda prints as I could incorporate into the design. My flowers cascade down the middle of the quilt in a random way, which break up the formality of the cream and make it feel more light hearted. The flowers are appliqued onto the quilt top after the piecing is complete, and I used a combination of machine blanket stitch, satin stitch and raw edge applique. After the top was done, I had the best fun quilting this little gem.

Lauren had her quilt in the book professionally long armed, but if that is not an option for you, this is the perfect size to fit under your domestic sewing machine, measuring 27" x 31". I quilted my design in under 3 hours, with simple straight line design, that highlights the design of the quilt and echoes the vintage feel.

I had planned to piece the backing like the pattern calls for in the book, but last week we had a few days away, and while we were there I managed to find the cosiest little country quilt shop selling a small Tilda range. Of course no holiday is complete without checking out the thrift shops and quilt shops!I couldn't help myself, and bought this print from the Circus range. It had the perfect vintage vibe I was after. The large peonie print in the range would also be a stunning choice.

The flower faces were embroidered at the very end, and I they are just the most angelic of all sleeping flowers! Except that top one...she's dreaming of her revenge on all her goody-two-shoes sisters below!

Pretty Handmades Blog Tour - Flower Friends Quilt - Tilda stack

I've absolutely loved adding to my stack of Tilda quilts...that's two now...and can't wait to make a ton more...

Pretty Handmades Blog Tour - Flower Friends Quilt - sleeping cherub

And can we just hear it for this sweet little cherub, who was a real trooper and slept through the whole photo shoot! Her little chubby cheeks are just to die for...The blog tour is half way through now...so check out all the amazing projects that have been shown off so far, and follow along for the rest of September with the rest of the amazing bloggers list. And Lauren is giving away a signed copy of her book both on her blog and on Instagram at the end of September...make sure you tune in to enter![/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built="1" _builder_version="3.0.69" global_module="2683"][et_pb_row global_parent="2683" custom_width_px="1716px"
